  1. Jeffrey Bernard was born on the 27 may 1932. He was a British journalist probably best known for his weekly column in “Low Life” in the spectator magazine and probably also knows for his chaotic career and his life of alcohol abuse. Jeffrey Bernard was the son of an opera singer and an architect father who designed the famous Lyons' Corner Houses in London.
Bernard worked in various poorly paid jobs before someone realised he had the talent of a writer and persuaded him to try journalism. As Bernard’s reputation grew he wrote a column for Sporting life then the Spectator magazine gave him a chance to write a column which was then described by someone to be a suicide note in weekly’s instalments.
Bernard was then later immortalised in the comical play called Jeffrey Bernard is unwell which was written by Keith Waterhouse
He died on 4 September 1997
The plot of Jeffrey Bernard is unwell
Bernard wakes up in a pub at 5 am in the morning and finds that he is locked inside the coach and horses (the pub). He then goes onto realises that he can help himself to any drinks. While Bernard thinks about what he has done in his life he drinks the best part of a bottle of vodka. His drinking, gambling, his romantic affair with his 4 wives ad describing some of the fun bizarre events which have happen in his life and he talks about his scandalous pals. Conti also pulls off a smart trick with a glass of water, a match box, and an egg, after some gentle teasing of the audience. There were a team of 4 supporting actors including landlords judges Bernard’s wives who floats on and off stage while he wait to be release from the pub.
Jeffrey Bernard is unwell was the winner of the Evening Standard's Best Comedy Award in 1990.
As we have only seen a little bit of the film Jeffrey Bernard is unwell but with what we have seen I have enjoy to me I had a certain Brechtian style of the way it was performed as there was a monologue preform by Bernard but interrupted by other characters but then the set had a Craig style because it was on a slate to represent he was drunk.

  2. (this is not my work im just posting for opther people)
    LIAM SAYS:
    Peter o'Tool
    Born: 2nd August 1932
An Irish actor born in Leeds, when he grew up he wished to be a journalist, at the age of seventeen made his first stage appearance. He carried on to become one of the most successful actors of his generation, made his fame by appearing in the movie Lawrence of Arabia.
"The only exercise I take is walking behind the coffins of friends who took exercise"
He seems a funny man there are many quotes showing his wit and personality. I like the fact he tried to turn down a lifetime achievement award as this signalled the end of his career, unfortunately he was told he was getting it he was there or not. His filmography is massive he's played popes, Sherlock Holmes, kings and even the critic in Ratatouille. Unfortunately the drinking got the the better of him and he suffered from stomach cancer which nearly killed him, but triumphantly returned and is still going.
Also a fact for you Harry Potter fans; was hoped he would play Dumbledore when Richard Harris died. Well Michael Gambom got the part instead.

  3. Keith Waterhouse,
Mr Waterhouse is known as one Britain's most distinguished and popular writers whose work spanned on to television, cinema, theatre, and journalism.
Born: 6 February 1929,Hunslet, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.
    Died: 4 September 2009
Two of his famous plays are Billy Liar and highly acclaimed Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell based on the life of journalist Jeffrey Bernard. Mr Waterhouse won the Evening Standard Awards Comedy of the Year in 1990.
Mr Keith was also a hugely popular newspaper and magazine columnist, retiring from his Daily Mail and Saga magazine columns only shortly before his death in September 2009.
Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell* is about a real life journalist and Jeffrey Bernard was still alive when the play was first performed in the West End in 1989 and the show is still remembered as a one man show staring Peter O'Toole as the anti-hero takes us on an entertaining voyage round his failure, the product of a lifetime’s dedication.

  4. Just a small comment on Peter O'Toole...

He received an honorary Academy Award in 2003, but was rather irritated with the prize, saying that the deciding body should have waited "until I am 80" and that he was "still in the game and might win the lovely bugger outright".

It's a delightfully sad story that despite having the record for the most Academy Award nominations for 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' (eight times,) he hasn't won once. Peter O'Toole's comments in reception to the honorary oscar tells me he is a man of character just as spirited as his screen and stage roles.
